Count the Squares - Solution

Count the Squares - Solution

Question
You draw only 1 square with a black marker on a white piece of paper.

How many Squares do you See (I can see 3)
1. Inner white Square.
2. Inner white Square with black outline.
3. Square only formed by black outline

Answer
Interesting question Michael. I have just finished answering your e-mail on the same issue. I believe your question is still dealing with one square basically. By you logic, the number of squares should be 120, because each of the 40 squares should be counted thrice.

Thanks for the picture though. I have edited it some, to help answer the puzzle - which is actually 40 squares.

Hi Anonymous,

Don't count the square thrice. Look at the picture above. You'll see that the number of squares are 40 and they are counted as shown in the picture.

Yes I think so. The number of the squares are 120. I have finished a triangle counting puzzle. Logic is same here.

The counting squares game that is explained here on the page is so interesting. The experimental (meant to say 'experiential', I think) learning games that are shared here on the page are truly great and these games will help our children understand the subject in a better way.
